38 weeks!

38 WEEKS

HOW BIG IS BABY? 19.61 INCHES WEIGHING 6.30 POUNDS  – ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PUMPKIN!

DEVELOPMENT: BABY RUSH’S SKULL IS STILL SOFT TO ALLOW FOR HER TRIP THROUGH THE BIRTH CANAL. SOME OF HER TINY BONES IN HER BODY WON’T FUSE TOGETHER UNTIL AFTER BIRTH. AT THIS POINT BABY GIRL IS INGESTING A LOT OF AMNIOTIC FLUID, WHICH IS RESULTING IN THE BUILD-UP OF MECONIUM (HER FIRST BOWEL MOVEMENT) HER FINGERNAILS WILL CONTINUE TO GROW BUT THEY ARE KEPT SOFT WHILE IN MY UTERUS. SHE IS ALSO GAINING ABOUT ONE OUNCE EVERY DAY AT THIS STAGE!

WEIGHT GAIN: 26 LBS

SLEEP: SLEEP HAS STILL BEEN PRETTY ROUGH, AND I HAVE TO GET UP MULTIPLE TIMES A NIGHT TO PEE AND EVERY TIME I TRY TO GET OUT OF BED I AM LIKE A BEACHED WHALE. IT’S PRETTY RIDICULOUS.

MISSING: NOT HAVING TO WADDLE EVERY TIME I WALK AROUND FOR TOO LONG. HAHA

CRAVING: CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES!

FEELING: MY GOODNESS! I’M FEELING EXCITED TO SEE MY LITTLE BABY GIRL! I CAN’T WAIT TO HOLD HER IN MY ARMS SOON. I AM OBVIOUSLY VERY UNCOMFORTABLE AS WELL, BUT IT’S ONLY FOR A LITTLE WHILE LONGER. IT WILL ALL BE WORTH IT IN THE END. 🙂

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: TWO THINGS.. MY SISTER IN LAW, SHANAH HAD HER BABY ON APRIL FOOLS DAY!! HER NAME IS MARAE AND SHE WAS ABOUT 7LBS AND WAS BORN IN ABOUT ONE HOUR AFTER SHANAH’S WATER BROKE! SO THEY BARELY MADE IT TO THE HOSPITAL! THE OTHER GREAT MOMENT OF THE WEEK WE HAD AN ULTRASOUND TODAY TO MAKE SURE THAT BABY GIRL ISN’T TOO BIG (BC OF ME BEING BORDERLINE GESTATIONAL DIABETIC) AND TO MAKE SURE THAT SHE IS DOING OKAY. ALTHOUGH THE ULTRASOUND ISN’T COMPLETELY ACCURATE (GIVE OR TAKE A POUND THEY SAY) THE ULTRASOUND TECHNICIAN SAID THAT BABY RUSH WAS IN THE 20TH PERCENTILE FOR 38 WEEKS, MEANING THAT SHE IS ON THE SMALLER SIDE AND MOST WOMAN THAT HAVE GD THEIR BABIES ARE CLOSER TO THE 90TH PERCENTILE. SO THAT WAS SOME GOOD NEWS BECAUSE GIVE OR TAKE A POUND SHE SHOULD STILL BE AT A GOOD WEIGHT. IT WAS SO FUN TO SEE HER SWEET FACE AGAIN BEFORE THE REAL DEAL! THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT BABY RUSH IS POSTERIOR, WHICH MEANS THAT HER FACE IS FACING MY STOMACH WHEN SHE SHOULD BE FACING MY BACK. SINCE I AM WANTING TO DO A NATURAL LABOR IT WILL BE A LOT HARDER, BECAUSE THEY SAY IT TAKES LONGER TO DILATE AND IT MAKES FOR A MORE PAINFUL LABOR, SO I AM REALLY HOPING THAT SHE FLIPS REAL SOON! LUCKILY I HAVE AN AWESOME DOULA, KASSIE ANDERSON WHO HAS SOME GOOD TECHNIQUES TO GET HER TO FLIP AROUND.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: FINDING OUT IF CORY GETS THIS JOB IN DALLAS, TEXAS WORKING AS AN ASSOCIATE DENTIST! HOPEFULLY WE WILL BE FINDING OUT WITHIN THE NEXT WEEK.

This week has actually gone by pretty fast, which is nice for me! It brings us one week closer to seeing our baby girl. Charleston in April is absolutely gorgeous, all of the trees and bushes are blossoming and the air smells so sweet with a mix of the ocean air. We spent the weekend outside with a picnic at the park and a yummy brunch at beautiful Charles Towne Landing with our friends on Sunday before watching conference. We sure are going to miss everyone when we move!

  1. I just came across your blog (it’s beautiful). I’m at a similar stage (39+1) – it’s so exciting and frustrating at the same time! Mostly exciting though 🙂 Many congratulations and best wishes for the coming weeks!

    • Sarah,
Thank you so much! Yours is beautiful as well 🙂 Today I am 39 weeks and 2 days so we are pretty much the same! Same to you, I wish you the best of luck on your labor and many blessings to your sweet little baby.
