36 WEEKS

HOW BIG IS BABY? 18.66 INCHES WEIGHING 5.78 POUNDS  – ABOUT THE SIZE OF A HONEYDEW!

DEVELOPMENT: BABY RUSH WEIGHS ABOUT 6 POUNDS AND SHE WILL GAIN APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF OF A POUND PER WEEK FROM NOW UNTIL BIRTH. THE PROTECTIVE FAT LAYER WILL MAKE UP ABOUT 15% OF HER WEIGHT AT BIRTH. EVEN THOUGH BABY GIRLS GUMS HAVE RIDGES THAT LOOK A BIT LIKE TEETH, THE REAL ONES OBVIOUSLY DON’T COME OUT UNTIL ABOUT 4 TO 5 MONTHS AFTER BIRTH. HER CHEEKS ARE DEVELOPING FAT. THE CHEEK MUSCLES ARE ALSO DEVELOPING, CREATING TAHT LOVELY CHUBBY APPEARANCE. THERE ISN’T MUCH ROOM TO MOVE AROUND ANYMORE, ALTHOUGH I CAN STILL FEEL HER REGULAR MOVEMENTS.

WEIGHT GAIN: 22 LBS!!

SLEEP: I HAVE BEEN GETTING A LOT OF BRAXTON HICKS CONTRACTIONS AT NIGHT, IT FEELS LIKE REALLY BAD PERIOD CRAMPS ALL OVER MY LOWER BACK AND STOMACH. I’VE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AND I AM VERY EXCITED FOR THE NIGHT THAT I CAN SLEEP COMFORTABLY AGAIN.

MISSING: COMFORT IN MY SLEEP AND NOT HAVING TO PEE EVERY 5 SECONDS.

CRAVING: NOTHING IN PARTICULAR..

FEELING: STRETCHED TO THE MAX!!! I GOT MY FIRST STRETCH MARKS AND IT MAKES ME REALLY SAD. 😦

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: CORY AND I CELEBRATED OUR 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY ON MONDAY AT IT WAS SUCH A GREAT DAY! CORY BROUGHT ME FLOWERS AND I MADE A LITTLE SCRAP BOOK OF OUR FIRST TWO YEARS AND CORY ALSO WROTE ME THE SWEETEST LETTER THAT BROUGHT TEARS TO MY EYES AND HE ALSO GOT ME A HAMMOCK THAT YOU CAN TIE ON TREES! I’VE BEEN WANTING ONE FOR A LITTLE WHILE FOR OUR DAYS AT THE PARK, SO I AM VERY EXCITED TO USE IT! THIS WEEKEND WE ARE GOING TO FINISH CELEBRATING OUR ANNIVERSARY IN SAVANNAH, GA!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: SAVANNAH THIS WEEKEND!

HOW BIG IS BABY? 18.19 INCHES WEIGHING 5.25 POUNDS  – ABOUT THE SIZE OF A COCONUT!

DEVELOPMENT: MY GOODNESS, SHE IS ALREADY ALMOST 5 1/2 POUNDS! SHE IS GROWING SO QUICKLY IT’S CRAZY. BABY RUSH WILL START A RAPID WEIGHT GAIN THIS WEEK. FROM NOW UNTIL BIRTH MY BABE WILL GAIN APPROXIMATELY 1/3 OF A POUND PER WEEK. A LOT OF THIS WEIGHT IS THE ALL-IMPORTANT BROWN FAT TO KEEP THIS LITTLE ONE WARM FOR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS AFTER BIRTH. THIS BROWN FAT IS DIFFERENT FROM THE WHITE FAT THAT WE WOMEN KNOW ALL TOO WELL. BROWN FAT CONTAINS MORE CELLS THAT PRODUCE BODY HEAT AND THIS IN TURN PREVENTS HYPOTHERMIA. THIS BROWN FAT APPEARS ON HER UPPER SPINE, BACK AND SHOULDERS. HER CUTE LITTLE CHUBBY CHEEKS ARE FILLED WITH WHITE FAT.

WEIGHT GAIN: 22 LBS!!

SLEEP: OH BOY. SLEEP IS ALMOST NON EXISTANT THESE DAYS. I CANNOT GET COMFORTABLE EVER AND IT SEEMS THAT ONCE I FIND A COMFORTABLE POSITION IT GETS UNCOMFORTABLE AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THEN I’M UP AGAIN MOVING AROUND. ALTHOUGH, WITH ALL THIS WAKING UP I HAVE EVEN MORE RANDOM DREAMS THAT I WAKE UP KIND OF LAUGHING, BUT I CAN NEVER REMEMBER THEM IN THE MORNING.

MISSING: BEING ABLE TO EAT CHOCOLATE CAKE IF I WANTED TO! HAHA I AM STILL CRAVING THAT CHOCOLATE CAKE THAT I CRAVED LAST WEEK. I FINALLY CAVED AND GOT MYSELF A SLICE OF CHOCOLATE CAKE. IT WAS DIVINE!!!

CRAVING: AS MENTIONED ABOVE, CHOCOLATE CAKE. I ALSO HAD A REALLY RANDOM CRAVING FOR POTATO CHIPS TODAY AND I REALLY DON’T LIKE POTATO CHIPS AT ALL! I DIDN’T GIVE IN TO THAT CRAVING EITHER… YOU SHOULD BE PROUD.

FEELING: VERY LARGE AND IN CHARGE. I HATE NOT BEING ABLE TO DO NORMAL THINGS WITHOUT FEELING A LITTLE CRIPPLED BY THE SIZE OF MY BELLY. AND SPEAKING OF THE SIZE OF MY BELLY, I FEEL LIKE IT DOUBLED IN SIZE BECAUSE I AM KNOCKING IT INTO EVERYTHING THESE DAYS!

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: WE WENT TO MY OB AND SHE SAID MY GESTATIONAL DIABETES IS NOT BAD AT ALL, SO THE RISKS INVOLVED ARE VERY LOW! BUT JUST TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS LOOKING OKAY WE ARE GOING TO HAVE AN ULTRASOUND IN TWO WEEKS. SO I AM EXCITED TO SEE MY LITTLE ONE ONE MORE TIME BEFORE HER ACTUAL BIRTH! ANOTHER GREAT MOMENT, WE SOLD OUR BEDSET A FEW WEEKS AGO SO CORY HAS BEEN WITHOUT A DRESSER FOR A LITTLE WHILE, AND WHILE I WAS SEARCHING ON CRAIGSLIST FOR A TEMPORARY ONE BEFORE WE LEAVE, I ENDED UP FINDING THIS AWESOME WARDROBE FROM IKEA THAT IS PRETTY BIG FOR ONLY $150 (REGULARLY $800) SO WE ENDED UP GETTING IT AND WE SET IT ALL UP SATURDAY NIGHT AND NOW I FINALLY HAVE SOME STORAGE TO GET MY NESTING FIX ON AND ACTUALLY HAVE A PLACE TO PUT EVERYTHING INCLUDING ALL OF BABY’S CLOTHES!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: OUR 2 YEAR WEDDING ANNIVERSARY ON THE 24TH!

This week has been a pretty good one! Cory had his spring break this week (March 10-14) and he had the opportunity to fly out to Texas for an interview with a potential employer as an associate dentist! It was out in Dallas, Texas and even though we have both never been there we have a really good feeling about moving there. The funny thing about this Dr. looking to hire Cory is we found out a crazy webbed connection with him. My brother went to dental school in Louisville, KY and that is where (I’ll call him Dr. X) Dr. X went to school, but he went to school there about 5 years before my brother, so we figured they didn’t know each other, until we told my brother, Trevor about it. Then Trevor and Shanah (his wife) asked for his full name and realized that Dr. X is actually the brother of one of his dental school colleagues wife.. it’s kind of confusing. But his wife (Dr. X’s sister) contacted me and had me design their dental logo last year after her husband graduated for their new practice up in Idaho. I have also designed their Christmas cards as well, so Dr. X has probably gotten one of my designed Christmas cards in the mail over Christmas. Then the other crazy connection that we came to find out is that Dr. X and his sister are actually my brother-in-law’s cousins! What are the odds of that random connection?? But anyway, Cory said the interview went well and we are now just waiting for Dr. X to get back to us on whether he got the job or not! We are crossing our fingers!! But if Cory doesn’t get this position, we know that everything happens for a reason and we will go wherever the Lord has planned for us.

Meanwhile I have been working like crazy to get the rest of my clients done! That way I won’t have any work when the baby comes and I can just focus on her and (hopefully) getting some rest!! Cory and I have been going on a lot of walks and enjoying the warm days we have here in Charleston. This winter/early spring has been so up and down and it drives me crazy! Last year the weather was perfect around this time and we rarely had a day below 50. Now it goes from 75 and drops to 55 and rains and is gloomy out and then it slowly creeps up to another beautiful 70 degree day and then drops again. I am not a fan. Spring needs to officially get here already so I can go on as many walks and hubby time outside as much as possible before our baby comes and I’m stuck inside for a little while.

The left picture is my desk, getting ready to send out packages to my clients!
The right picture is a snapshot that I’m sure I will miss after this baby comes. I’m going to miss her little kicks and I’m going to miss being able to rest my cups and many other random things on my belly. That cup is the one I kind of made for my little girl on Valentine’s day.

Pictures of us enjoying these beautiful Charleston days and finding new bakeries to try out, I love living downtown.

bday

This week was also filled with birthdays! It was my sweet and beautiful mama’s birthday on the 16th. She is such and inspiration and example as to what a mother is supposed to be and I couldn’t be more grateful to have her as my mom.
It was also my beautiful friend Kassie’s birthday on the 16th and our good friend Dave’s birthday on the 17th so there was much singing and cake to be had!

4

This week we also invested in a HUGE IKEA wardrobe to fit all of baby’s stuff and our stuff in. Things are just getting a little too crowded in our tiny downtown apartment and we are accumulating too much stuff so it was really nice to finally get another unit where we can hide away a lot of our non stored items. Baby Rush has a lot of clothes to wear before she gets bigger so let’s hope she doesn’t grow too fast!
Also, setting it up was quite an ordeal because the wardrobe is about 7’10” high and our ceilings are only 8″ tall and it is also about 6′ wide so poor Cory had to work some serious magic!

I couldn’t help but post this ADORABLE swimsuit from Janie and Jack!! They have the cutest summer wear right now!

HOW BIG IS BABY? 17.72 INCHES WEIGHING 4.73 LBS POUNDS  – ABOUT THE SIZE OF A CANTALOUPE!

DEVELOPMENT: BABY RUSH ALMOST WEIGHS 5 POUNDS NOW!! AND BY THIS TIME MOST OF THE LANUGO (BODY HAIR) IS GONE. HER IMMUNE SYSTEM IS NO LONGER RELYING ON THE ANTIBODIES FROM MY PLACENTA. THIS SELF-IMMUNITY IS IMPORTANT TO PROTECT MY MINI AT BIRTH AND FOR THE REST OF HER LIFE. THE VERNIX (THICK WHITE LAYER OF PROTECTION PRESENT ON BABY’S SKIN) IS DISAPPEARING; HOWEVER, A LITTLE BIT OF IT WILL STILL BE LEFT AT BIRTH. HER DIGESTIVE SYSTEM IS NOW FULLY WORKING BY ITSELF. AND NOW BABY RUSH IS PEEING UP TO A PINT OF URINE A DAY INTO THE AMNIOTIC FLUID!

WEIGHT GAIN: STILL AT 20 LBS.

SLEEP: I’VE BEEN HAVING A LOT OF BIRTH DREAMS BUT I HAD ONE IN PARTICULAR ONE THAT MADE ME LAUGH A LITTLE. I HAD A DREAM THAT I WAS IN LABOR, BUT INSTEAD OF ME TRYING TO PUSH MY BABY OUT OF MY BELLY, SHE WAS IN A WHITE AIRTIGHT BAG AND IT WAS LAYING ON A TABLE. THE DOCTORS AND NURSES WERE ALL YELLING “PUSH!! YOU’RE ALMOST THERE!! WHILE I WAS STANDING THERE PUSHING HER OUT LIKE A TUBE OF TOOTHPASTE, THEN SHE FINALLY POPPED OUT OF THE BAG AND THAT WAS IT! I WAS SURPRISED THAT DIDN’T HAVE TO GO INTO ACTUAL LABOR AND HOW EASY IT WAS TO “PUSH” HER OUT! HAHA

MISSING: WELL I HAVE RECENTLY BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH GESTATIONAL DIABETES, LUCKILY THEY SAID I AM BORDERLINE, BUT IT IS NOT A FUN THING TO DEAL WITH. I AM NOT A VERY UNHEALTHY EATER, I DON’T DRINK SODA OR COFFEE, I DON’T LIKE CHIPS OR GREASY/FAST FOODS SO IT WAS A LITTLE TAKEN BACK WHEN I TESTED POSITIVE. I DO LOVE CARBS THOUGH, SO THAT WILL BE MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE! SO I GUESS I’LL SAY THAT I MISS BEING ABLE TO EAT OATMEAL OR BREAD WITHOUT THINKING ABOUT MY BLOOD SUGAR. BUT AT LEAST I WILL BE HEALTHIER AND IT WILL HOPEFULLY BE EASIER FOR ME TO LOSE WEIGHT AFTER BABY COMES! 🙂

CRAVING: I HAD THE BIGGEST CRAVING FOR CHOCOLATE CAKE THIS WEEK!! I NEVER WENT AND GOT ANY SO IT IS STILL TEMPTING ME IN THE BACK OF MY MIND.

FEELING: STRETCHED TO THE MAX AND MY MOBILITY IS GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO MANEUVER. ALSO, THIS BABE LOVES TO KICK UP IN MY RIBS ALL DAY. IT IS STARTING TO GET REAL CROWDED IN THERE SO EVERY MOVEMENT FEELS SO STRETCHED IN MY BELLY. IT ALWAYS MAKE ME HAPPY TO KNOW SHE IS ACTIVE AND DOING WELL IN THERE, DESPITE THE DISCOMFORT.

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: WELL CORY’S SPRING BREAK STARTED ON MONDAY SO WE TOOK A NICE LONG WALK AROUND DOWNTOWN WITH CURLY (OUR DOG) AND GOT SOME YUMMY LUNCH AT THIS PLACE CALLED THE BLACK BIRD CAFE AND THEN ATE AT THE PARK AND BASKED IN THE SUNLIGHT. IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY! WE ENJOYED EACH OTHERS COMPANY, THE SUNLIGHT AND THE DOWNTOWN ATMOSPHERE WE LIVE IN. THEN THE NEXT DAY CORY FLEW OUT TO DALLAS, TEXAS FOR A VERY IMPORTANT INTERVIEW FOR AN ASSOCIATE DENTIST POSITION. WE HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH A LOT OF UP’S AND DOWN’S THESE PAST TWO MONTHS, IT WOULD BE AWESOME IF WE GET SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT HIS NEW JOB SOON! BUT IF NOT, I DO BELIEVE THAT EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON AND GOD’S HAND IS GUIDING OUR LIVES. 🙂

LOOKING FORWARD TO: SEEING MY BABY GIRL IN 6 WEEKS!!! …. OR LESS.

My two amazing friends, Heather and Karen planned a beautiful baby shower for me this weekend and let me just say that there is never a dull moment with these two as well as the rest of the beautiful guests. We had a yummy brunch at The Red Drum and my sis in law (who is three weeks ahead of me) came down for it too! It was a great time and I am so grateful to have such wonderful friends and family around me!

HOW BIG IS BABY? 17.2 INCHES WEIGHING 4.23 LBS POUNDS  – ABOUT THE SIZE OF A PINEAPPLE!

DEVELOPMENT: OUR BABY GIRLS BONES ARE HARDENING, BUT HER SKULL IS STILL NOT SOLID AND NOT FUSED TOGETHER TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR HER HEAD TO REDUCE ITS DIAMETER AS SHE IS BEING BORN. HER BRAIN IS DEVELOPING MORE DISTINCT FUNCTIONS AND IS CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING BREATHING, DIGESTIVE FUNCTIONS AND BODY TEMPERATURE. SHE CAN NOW TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DAY AND NIGHT, WHICH IS PRETTY COOL! BABY RUSH’S LUNGS ARE ALMOST COMPLETELY READY FOR BREATHING ON HER OWN AS WELL!

WEIGHT GAIN: STILL AT 20 LBS.

SLEEP: SLEEP IS BEGINNING TO GET A LITTLE MORE UNCOMFORTABLE. I’M NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO IT JUST GETTING WORSE.

MISSING: LAYING ON MY STOMACH AT NIGHT WHEN I SLEEP! 🙂

CRAVING: HM… NOTHING REALLY PARTICULAR.

FEELING: LIKE A WHALE.

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: MY FAVORITE MOMENTS OF THE WEEK ARE WHEN CORY TALKS TO BABY RUSH ABOUT HIS DAY. 🙂 ANOTHER GREAT MOMENT OF THE WEEK WAS MY BABY SHOWER! MY FRIENDS PUT IT TOGETHER FOR ME AND THEY MADE EVERYTHING LOOK SO CUTE, WE (ME & BABY) FELT SO LOVED! I AM GOING WITH A BUNNY THEME FOR MY MINI SINCE SHE WILL BE DUE RIGHT AROUND EASTER, SO THEY GOT A BUNCH OF ADORABLE BUNNY PRINTS AND FRAMED THEM. I LOVE LOVE LOVED IT! SO SHALYSSE AND KAITLYN THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR PLANNING AND PUTTING EVERYTHING TOGETHER! THANK YOU MELISSA FOR HOSTING IT AT YOUR HOUSE, THANK YOU KIAMA FOR MAKING THE DELICIOUS CUPCAKES AND THANK YOU JENNA FOR CAPTURING SUCH A HAPPY DAY!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: MY SECOND BABY SHOWER!

DEVELOPMENT: BABY RUSH IS MAKING THE FOETAL POSITION MORE OF A FAMILIAR ONE FOR HERSELF, SINCE ROOM IS GETTING REALLY SNUG IN THERE AS SHE CONTINUES TO GROW! SHE CAN NOW USE ALL 5 SENSES TOO! SHE IS BUSY LOOKING AROUND, PRACTICING BREATHING, GRABBING WHATEVER IS IN REACH, TASTING AMNIOTIC FLUID AND LISTENING TO THE SOUND OF MINE AND CORY’S VOICES.

WEIGHT GAIN: STILL AT 20 LBS.

SLEEP: SAME AS USUAL. BUT I HAVE BEEN DREAMING MORE ABOUT MY BABE AND GIVING BIRTH TO HER AND NOT FEELING READY AT ALL (PREPARATION WISE).

MISSING: I MISS NOT HAVING AN ITCHY BELLY ALL DAY FROM MY SKIN STRETCHING!! IT ITCHES SO BAD SOMETIMES AND I JUST WANT TO ITCH ALL OVER BUT I KNOW IT’S BAD FOR MY SKIN AND I HEAR IT MY CAUSE STRETCH MARKS..

CRAVING: NOTHING IN PARTICULAR.

FEELING: STILL FEELING PRETTY GOOD, MY TAILBONE IS STILL NEEDING MORE CHIROPRACTIC WORK BUT I THINK IT’S GETTING BETTER!

GENDER: IT’S A GIRL!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: GETTING TO WATCH MY BELLY MORPH INTO MANY DIFFERENT SHAPES AS I WATCHED BABY GIRL MOVE ALL OVER THE PLACE. SHE IS AN ACTIVE ONE ALRIGHT! I LOVE IT WHEN I PUT MY HAND ON MY STOMACH AND I CAN ALMOST FEEL HER LITTLE FEET/HANDS/KNEES/ELBOWS OR WHATEVER IS PUSHING UP AGAINST MY BELLY!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: MY FIRST BABY SHOWER!

Well the drama continues with the car situation, but I am sure everything will end up working out… I hope. Cory is still looking for dental associate jobs in Texas and Arizona we are hoping and praying for some interviews to come our way soon! I also had to go in for my gestational diabetes test (I know, I’m a little late) and apparently I am borderline so I have to go in for the three hour test, which is going to be hell! Not excited about it at all. Wish me luck!

DEVELOPMENT: THE KIDNEYS, LIVER, BRAIN AND LUNGS ARE BEGINNING TO FUNCTION. BABY’S HEAD IS HALF THE SIZE OF HIS/HER BODY AND THE TAIL IS STARTING TO DISAPPEAR. BABY’S EYES ARE FULLY DEVELOPED BUT THEY WON’T OPEN AND CLOSE FOR A FEW MORE WEEKS. THE NIPPLES ON THE BABY ARE ALSO FORMING TOO.

TOTAL WEIGHT GAIN: 1.5 LBS

SLEEP: MORE RANDOM AND VIVID DREAMS AND WAKING UP TO PEE ONCE A NIGHT

MISSING: FEELING ENERGIZED!

CRAVING: I HAD THE MOST RANDOM CRAVING FOR CHIPS AND QUESO FROM THIS MEXICAN RESTAURANT CORY AND I WENT TO ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO. IT JUST POPPED IN MY MIND AND COUDLN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT, THE WEIRD THING WAS THAT I DON’T EVEN REALLY LIKE MEXICAN FOOD AND I NEVER REALLY EAT CHIPS. SO I SENT CORY OUT TO GET ME SOME,

FEELING: A LITTLE BETTER! THE NAUSEA HASN’T BEEN AS BAD THIS WEEK, SO HOPEFULLY IT WILL CONTINUE TO DECREASE 🙂

GENDER: OBVIOUSLY DON’T KNOW YET, BUT WE THINK IT IS GOING TO BE GOING TO BE A GIRL. WE DON’T CARE EITHER WAY, BUT WE JUST HAVE A FEELING.

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: CORY FINISHED TAKING HIS NATIONAL BOARDS! HE IS SO CLOSE TO BEING A DR. RUSH, THIS WAS HIS LAST WRITTEN TEST. WE FIND OUT IN ABOUT 2 WEEKS IF HE PASSED, BUT I’M PRETTY MUCH POSITIVE THAT HE DID.

LOOKING FORWARD TO: OUR NEXT ULTRASOUND IN 2 WEEKS!!

It is beginning to feel more like fall this week! We opened up all the windows in the house yesterday and today and it has been so nice to feel a little bit of the ocean breeze filtering through our windows. I can’t believe it’s already mid september, I’m excited for all the holiday’s to begin, it’s the best time of year!

CRAVING: STILL, NOTHING! I STILL DREAD HAVING TO EAT WHEN I WAKE UP IN THE MORNING

FEELING: NAUSEOUS, BUT HAS BEEN GETTING BETTER THE PAST TWO DAYS, HOPEFULLY IT CONTINUES TO GET BETTER. I ALSO FEEL SO BLOATED!!

BEST MOMENT OF THE WEEK: 2 THINGS – TELLING MY PARENTS AND SEEING THEIR REACTION AND HAVING A GOOD OB APPOINTMENT AND GETTING TO SEE THE BABE’S HEART BEAT!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: OUR NEXT ULTRASOUND IN 3 WEEKS!! AND OF COURSE FOR THE MORNING SICKNESS TO GO AWAY.

Today was our first 8 week appointment with my OB/GYN. Everything went really well, Cory was there with me, so it was nice to have him there to see our babies heart beating, it was crazy to see it’s tiny little body!
Our doctors name is Dr. Flowers and he has raving reviews all over the internet, so of course I chose to go to him, and his last name was a plus as well. He seems like a great doctor as well and answered all my questions and concerns. Our next appointment is in two weeks and we will be getting another ultrasound to see how baby is growing and developing!

In other news, I finally sent our pregnancy announcement card to my parents last week! They got it on Wednesday and we Skyped with them as they opened it. I was trying to record my screen so I could get their reaction, but sadly it didn’t end up recording. It was really sweet though, the front of the card said “Hey Mom & Dad! Someone has come to visit you” with the storks butt poking out (see pictures below) and then when they opened it, it said “hello there, I have a special message to deliver to you…” and then there was a picture of the stork holding a little bundle with a scratch off for them to scratch off with a penny I provided in a mini envelope and inside the bundle it said, “we’re expecting! April 2014 (stay tuned for the gender)”. As my parents were opening the card it was so fun to watch their reaction. My dad opened the card and scratched the gold ‘scratch off’ off and as he began to read that we were expecting he couldn’t even finish saying it without chocking up. It was very sweet, both of my parents began to tear up, which made me tear up a bit and we were all very joyous! It was a very tender moment to share with them and gammie and gramps are very excited to add another niece/nephew to the family!

Image

After our appointment today, Dr. Flowers said the heart was beating really fast which was a good sign that a miscarriage is at a lower percentage, but at our next appointment he said we will be able to determine if a miscarriage is pretty much not going to happen. (Crossing our fingers!) So we told the rest of my family and sent a picture of the ultrasound and I told my 4 best friends, so it was a good day!

BEST MOMENT THIS WEEK: FINALLY MAKING MY PREGNANCY ANNOUNCEMENT CARD FOR MY PARENTS AND GETTING FLOWERS FROM MY HUBBY!

LOOKING FORWARD TO: THE MORNING SICKNESS TO GO AWAY AND GOING TO MY FIRST OB APPOINTMENT IN ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF!

Well right now I’m about 6 1/2 weeks and I couldn’t be more excited to get this ball rolling, really just to get the ball rolling past the (all day) morning sickness! I am so sick all day and it is the worst! I also don’t have much energy to do anything and it is actually really annoying. I just want to go outside and run around, but the thought makes me even more queazy. I feel bad for all those pregnant woman who throw up and have morning sickness throughout their whole pregnancy. This week Cory and I were trying to think of names for our little growing baby and we are calling her (we think it’s a girl) our little peanut and sweet pea. We already have about 20 different names for Curly – our dog, so I’m sure baby will have many more. Today as I was laying sick in bed, I began thinking about our little peanut and it was so weird to think that in just about 7 1/2 months we will have a little one filling the room with her cries, laughs and goo goo ga ga’s! It was actually kind of hard for me to even imagine me as a mom. I feel like I am as ready as I can be to have a baby, but at the same time I don’t feel ready at all. I’m sure once the little one pops out my motherly instincts will come alive and I will know exactly what to do… well maybe. I’m sure once my belly starts to actually grow and I feel my first kick it will seem a lot more real to me, but for now I will just think of my little sweet pea up in heaven watching us and waiting to come down to finally see us again! Also, I would like to add that I haven’t been very moody at all really and I’m sure it is great for Cory! Although I do know that he isn’t a fan of me always being sick so we can never get frisky. (TMI but I don’t care) haha

6 weeks _ 1

I’m gonna be a mama

Right now I am 5 weeks pregnant! It still doesn’t really seem real to me, besides the nausea, tender breasts, frequent urination and fatigue reminding me every day. I’m sure when I go in to see my OB and I get to hear the heartbeat things will feel a lot more real.

Now, at first Cory and I weren’t trying to get pregnant. I wanted to wait until he was done with Dental School and settled in from moving back to Arizona, so I was thinking next July would be a good time. But then one day, it hit me. The baby bug planted itself in my brain and got nice and comfy. It all started when I was at Costco one day, I was walking down an isle with random home items when all of a sudden they had a nice little car seat with many cool features, so I found myself checking it out and having baby thoughts. I didn’t realize it until I finished reading the “features” tag and then I came back to my senses and walked away questioning why I was even looking at it. As I finished up at Costco I had to stop at Target, once again I found myself in the baby section looking at cute little mini clothes and shoes. Then again, I came to my senses and asked “what am I doing?!”. Immediately after that I went straight over to the health section and bought a big box of condoms.

Since then, I looked at babies in a completely different way. Before, I would see a baby and wouldn’t even think twice but now, little hearts formed in my eyes as I adored their little ways. A few months past by and (like I said, we weren’t trying) my period was late and I was feeling all the early pregnancy symptoms. The first symptom was nausea, I was in the bathroom one morning curling my hair when all of a sudden it hit me, I felt like I needed to throw up and I hadn’t had that feeling since I was a little kid! I was pretty much convinced that I was pregnant. Cory and I started to get more and more excited and I felt like I could be ready for this new adventure. But about 3 days after my missed period I woke up to some bleeding, still convinced that I was pregnant I thought it might just be spotting. But once I laid back down I got horrible cramps, they never went away and I called my sister and asked her about it. She said, it probably wasn’t spotting and that I wasn’t pregnant, after she said that I got really sad but tried to hide it. For the rest of the day I was in bed with the worst cramps I have ever had.

After that little glimpse of possible pregnancy, I felt ready to actually start trying for a baby! I had so many scared thoughts in my head like, what if I am infertile? I wonder how long it is going to take for me to get pregnant? What if I have a miscarriage? If I can’t get pregnant soon, I’m going to be an old mom, etc. etc. Then one morning I decided that I needed to stop worrying about it so much, so I said a prayer asking Heavenly Father to calm my thoughts and fears. Immediately after my prayer those thoughts had almost diminished, I barely even thought about it and I actually kind of convinced myself that it was going to take months to get pregnant and not to worry so much about it.

About 6 days before my period I decided to take a pregnancy test. I woke up at about 7:15 and I wanted to wait until Cory left for school at 7:50 so I could surprise him if I was. I tried to go back to bed but I couldn’t, I kept wondering if I was pregnant or not so I looked at the clock and it was 7:30. It felt like I was waiting in bed for at least 45 minutes and Cory was going to leave at any minute, so I couldn’t stand it anymore! I got up and took the test, I kept thinking “don’t get your hopes up, you’re not pregnant”, then I looked at the test and there was a very faint line. I needed a second opinion so I called Cory in, I already ruined the surprise but I just didn’t know! He looked at it and saw the line too. But we both weren’t convinced that I was pregnant (mainly because the test was bought from the dollar store) So Cory left for school and I started working, we waited until the next day to take another and the line was a little darker, it was another dollar store test so we still weren’t jumping up and down. On the third day I actually used a legit brand test and it was going positive within seconds! That was when Cory and I were pretty much positive that I was pregnant! That morning we were leaving for Arizona to see our new niece, Kaley who was born 5 weeks early on the 4th of July.

Once we arrived in Arizona it seemed that the topic of pregnancy and babies was being constantly talked about. Then Kyle and Caitlin (brother & sister in-law) brought little baby Kaley over and even more baby talk came up, people started asking when Cory and I were going to start trying for a baby and I am the worst liar ever, especially with such exciting news! So we kept our cool until the end of the night until I could barely hold it in anymore! So we decided to tell the family, I made a little impromptu way of telling Cory’s parents. At that point we read that the baby was the size of a poppy seed, so I found a little black sprinkle and taped it to the front of some yellow cardstock and made a little card. When they opened the card it said “Arriving April 2014” and put it in a little box tied with a bow. They were all very excited!

I have only told a handful of people and this blog is private for now until I’m around 13 weeks. I have yet to tell my parents, so I need to make a little package to send to them!

Cory and I are very excited for our new little growing baby! I had a dream that it was going to be a girl, so we will see if I am right. Cory wants it to be a boy of course, either way, I can’t wait to meet him/her!

Our baby is the size of an: Orange seed

Picture: 5weeks  (I just woke up so my hair and face is a little crazy)

Symptoms: Nausea (has actually gotten better these past two days), frequent urination,  slight fatigue, tender breasts and major bloating, I feel huge all the time and I’m not even showing yet! (not a good sign)

Food: So far no food aversions or cravings. I have been trying to eat very healthy and more often than usual. I am not a big eater, I actually hate having to eat. So I used to skip meals a lot (I know, not good) but now I make sure to eat 5 to 6 times a day otherwise I get nauseous. I have been trying to eat a lot of fruits and veggies.

Today, I had a spinach, egg white omelet with wholewheat raisin toast for breakfast, for lunch I made a chicken salad sandwich with a glass of milk, for a snack I had a sliced apple with peanut butter and for dinner I had a kale salad with corn, tomatoes and yummy deviled eggs from this great restaurant down the street called The Warehouse. Afterwards we walked over to get some frozen yogurt! I got coconut yogurt with strawberries and blueberries it was so yummy!

Exercise: I was planning on going to the gym today, but right around the time I was going to go I got so incredibly tired! I just had to lay down, so we walked to dinner and to get frozen yogurt which was about 3 miles round trip. It was nice to be outside, even though it is still pretty humid over here in Charleston!

Thoughts and Feelings: Well I pretty much wrote it all above, but I am excited and counting down the days for my first ob gyn visit!

Sorry for the longest post ever, I promise the next ones won’t be so long!
